So with the first full day beginning, all the apartment really has in the fridge is the Chinese from last night. Today was the day for settling in.
It started with a great cup of coffee on the patio. I thought the best way to kick the day off was to start with my favorite drink and once again taking in our view. Eventually we got around to cleaning up and getting ready to go grocery shopping. And after google-mapping (if this isn't an actual word, I am officially making it one as of now) close grocery stores and an ATM at which I will not have to pay $5.50 in fines (Thank you Wells Fargo).
So we set out. And as we're walking, I notice that I haven't even glanced at the street in front of me for the last thirty seconds. I've been too in awe of the tall buildings, none of which I know anything about. It's all so just so big, and we're smack-dab in the middle of this unexplored territory.
Soon after I became aware of my skyward tendency, I said to my roommates "We sure look like the newbies in-town right about now." So I hope by the end of the semester my eyes will be focused a little lower so that I can spot the newbies as if I'm from around here.
Needless to say, I am a part of a group of 47 college students, many of which have never been to Washington, DC. Looking up is going to be a habit and a must for a while.

Later on in the day, a big group of us went to the National Mall. I had never been there at night, and as I said to a friend "we're seeing the monuments at their best." There's something about the contrast of colors and the calmness of the night that makes the experience all the more regal.
I can feel your awe and I remember my awe as I walked the same streets and saw much of our history on display. The sky had never seemed more blue, the buildings as sky scrapping and the history as present.
